There is an expression I know that can thump fear into the heart of the most commonsensical and organized person on the planet. Looking back on all the movings David and I have been through in life, I think it is fair to say with a degree of certitude that moving per se—can take in the whole array of life’s journey packed into a teensy yet intense days, weeks, months or even years of substantial, physical and mental stressors—the figuring out of the right location, the job transfer, house selling-buying process, the traveling from one location to another, and of course, the 'packing-unpacking' aspect of it—have you ever remembered saying, "take this or leave that … put this down and set that up", ... wondering if the old house will sell in time … if the new place is the right one ... oh, if things will ever going to work out right while keeping so hard to be patient and lighthearted about the coming changes. And then, there are the emotional stressors—breaking the news to family and friends that you are moving on. Being apprehensive over the new voids in your life—wondering if you will ever find such blissful life again, and to top it all, dealing with temperament that can be as black as night.
Yes, moving comes with a package full of adventure, excitement, joy, happiness, grieving, pain, high, lows, apprehensions, and lots and lots of sleepless nights. Although pondering on its good side: I have discovered that moving can aid in finding a new you (for it brings out the best and worst in you), which can be a good assessment tool in evaluating your own life in preparation for the up coming new challenges as you start a new chapter.
But, there is this one move that I am looking forward with utmost keenness, the Lord Jesus said in John 14:2-3:
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
Our Heavenly Father, foreknew that the Lord Jesus would be going before us to prepare a place for us to live. With well-thought out, God chose the perfect occupation for the Lord Jesus—and that of being an earthly carpenter. God perfectly planned for everything from the very start. I cannot begin to imagine how slick this move is going to be. The thought of it just made me cry! Christ Jesus, the Maker of heaven and earth, the King of kings and the Lord of lords is hand picking my new place—representing as my General Contractor to build my new home, and He is coming back to get me—representing as my Mover. I'm flabbergasted! The search is over ... there is nothing else for me to do—nothing to sell, nothing to buy, nothing to pack and unpack, nothing to prepare, NOTHING TO WORRY … I just need to enter in! And when I get there, I know I will be amazed to see my beautiful eternal home that the Lord Jesus Himself has built for me—for you. I am convinced that there would be no other like it. More so, there would be no voids to fill, no pain or frustrations, no grieving, no apprehensions, no maintenance, and no utility bills to pay. It is paid in full.
I am reminded by these verses:
"The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.” God’s glory will be manifested at its best! This light will be so bright enough to disperse the physical night of the world and the spiritual night bent by sin." (Revelation 21:23)
"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." (Revelation 21:4)
Knowing all these, I am mindful that the Lord Jesus does not only curb His preparation for us to our eternal lodging. The Lord prepares a place for us that is even as close as our heart. He clears our pathways so we won’t fall over. He prepares us, molding us to new tasks and greater heights in life. Above all, He prepares us to accept salvation and His rightful place in our life. He prepares our hearts and minds into conformity with Him (Romans 12:2). So that, when we make the move to live in our new home in the New Jerusalem—there will be no more night … no more pain … no more tears … never crying again. So that, we will be able to fully comprehend and reflect the gleaming glorious light of our Omnipotent God and Savior, Christ Jesus the Lord.
Romans 8:28-30 ~ "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified."What a LORD and Savior!
